Sumaila Adam was born and raised in Tamale, Ghana, in a family deeply rooted in the traditions of Dagbang drumming. From a young age, his passion for culture and tradition began to take shape. His father, a skilled drummer, would often take him to ceremonies and festivals, where he had the chance to drum alongside him. These early experiences ignited his love for the art.

Through his father’s influence, he became involved with a performing group at the Tamale Cultural Center, where he continued to grow in the arts of drumming, dancing, and singing historical songs. His involvement with the group opened doors for him to travel across West Africa, performing at major festivals and connecting with the broader cultural community.

He also had the privilege of sharing the knowledge he gained with children in schools in Tamale and in various villages across Dagbang, passing on the traditions and cultural wisdom that had been handed down to him. Guided by his experiences both at home and at the cultural center, he eventually founded his own group.

His mission with the Zoobu Yili Foundation is clear: to educate and inspire the youth through the rich traditions of cultural drumming, dancing, and singing historical songs. Through this work, he aims to promote cultural excellence and share the beauty of their traditions with the world.
